Mutton - 1 kg
turmeric powder - 1 tsp
Chilli powder - 1 tbsp
Oil - 1 cup
Lemon juice - 2 tbsp
Curry leaves

For paste:
Onions - 3
Green chillies - 4-5
Ginger -1"
Garlic cloves- 8-10
Cumin seeds - 1 tbsp
Coriander leaves - small bunch

For roasted masala powder:
Coriander seeds - 2 tbsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Peppercorn - 1 tsp
Cloves -4-5
Cinnamon - 1" stick
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp


  •  Rub the mutton pieces with salt and turmeric and keep aside for one hour.
  • Heat the oil and fry the ground paste for 2-3 minutes till a fine aroma rises.
  • Lower the flame and add the marinated mutton pieces.
  • Add 4- 5 cups of water, cover with a lid and cook till the mutton is well done.
  • Mix in the powdered spices, chilli powder and cover, and continue to cook over low heat till the mutton is tender.
  • Mix in the lemon juice and stir well.
  • Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.

Dondakaya Masala (Gherkins Masala) curry

Dondakayalu - 250gms
Onions - 2
Oil - 2 tbsp
Cumin seeds - 1tsp
Tamarind juice - 2 tsp
Turmeric - 1/4tsp
Salt to taste

For Masala paste:
Peanuts -1 tbsp, Red Chillies - 3 no.'s, Gingely seeds - 1tbsp, Coriander seeds - 1 tbsp, coconut powder - 1tbsp,  cumin seeds - 1 tsp

Cut the onions into small pieces. Slit the dondakayalu into 4 long pieces. Dry roast all the masala ingredients and grind to make fine powder. Heat the oil add jeera when it crackles add onions. Fry onions for 5 minutes add dondakayalu, turmeric and salt. Cook for another 5 minutes the add the masala powder, tamarind juice and some water. Cook the curry till the oil floats. This curry goes well with rice and roti.
