Paruppu Usili ( Goru chikkudu Kandi Pappu to Kura)


Arhar Dal - 3/4 cup
Cluster beans - 250 gms
Green chillies - 4
 Dry red chillies - 2
Turmeric - 1/4 tsp
Salt to taste
Urad dal - 1 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Asafoetida -  a pinch
Oil - 2-3 tbsp


  • Soak arhar dal for 2 hours.Grind arhar dal along with salt, green chilli and red chilli. Grind coarsely using little water.
  • Grease oil to tin, put the dal paste evenly and steam in pressure cooker till it is cooked.
  • When it is cool open the lid and turn down the dal paste in other vessel. Crumble the cooked dal coarsely and keep aside.
  • Thread the cluster beans and chop them into small pieces. Boil them in pressure cooker up to 3 whistles.
  • Cool and drain the water completely.
  • Heat the oil in kadai, add urad dal, mustard seeds and asafoetida. Fry till mustard crackles.
  • Add cooked beans, little salt and turmeric. Cook for 3-4 minutes.
  • Then add crumbled mixture and mix well. Cook another 5 minutes by stirring continuously.
  • Serve hot.
