Ginger - 150 gms
Red chilli powder - 2 tsp
Brown sugar - 2 tsp
Tamarind - medium lemon size ball
Curry leaves -  few
Urad dal - 1 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1/6 tsp
Oil - 4 tsp
Salt to taste


  • Scrape skin from ginger. Remove seeds from tamarind.
  • Grind together the ginger, red chilli powder,sugar, tamarind and salt into a thick paste.
  • Remove; wash the grinding stone with 1/2 cup of water and add it to the ground paste.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add mustard, urad dal, curry leaves and allow it to splutter.
  • Add ground mixture with liquid and simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Serve hot or cold.
