Ingredients:
Red gram dal - 3/4 cup
Brinjals - 3-4 (cut into big pieces)
Red chillies - 2-3 (cut into pieces)
Kholamba powder - 2 tsp
Tamarind pulp - 2 tsp
Salt to taste
Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
Curry leaves - few
Asafoetida- a pinch
Oil - 1 tbsp
Method:
- Wash and cook dal in pressure cooker till soft.
- Cook the brinjals separately with enough water till soft.
- Add this to the cooked dal along with salt, tamarind pulp and Kholamba powder.
- Stir well and add enough water to bring it to boil.
- Heat oil in small pan; add mustard seeds, red chillies, curry leaves and asafoetida.; allow them to splutter.
- Add the seasoning to the dal.
