Bitter Gourd with Dal

Masoor Dal - 1 cup
Moong Dal - 1/2 cup
Bitter Gourd - 200 gm
Okra - 100 gm
Coconut - 3 tbsp
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Red chillies - 2
Salt to taste
Turmeric - 1/4 tsp
Red Chilli powder - 1 tsp
Green chillies - 4-5
Oil - 4 tbsp


  • Cut the bitter gourd into thin slices and boil them in salt water. Drain the water and keep aside.
  • Cut okra into small pieces.
  • Heat 2 tbsp of oil and Fry bitter gourd pieces till dry.    
  • Heat 1 tbsp of oil and fry okra pieces till dry.
  • Soak dals for 30 minutes then pressure cook till soft and tender. Mash the dal.
  • Heat oil in kadai, add cumin seeds and red chillies. Fry.
  • Add gourd pieces, okra, coconut, salt, turmeric and red chilli powder. Fry for few minutes.
  • Add cooked dal and mix well.
  • Cook another 5 minutes then remove from fire.
  • Serve hot with rice.
