MACARONI WITH CHEESE SAUCE

Ingredients:
Macaroni - 225 gms
White sauce- 500 ml
Grated cheddar cheese - 250 gms
Minced onion - 1/2 tsp (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste
Soft buttered crumbs - 175 ml

Method:

  • Cook macaroni according to directions on package.
  • Prepare seasoned white sauce in the top section of a double boiler; add grated cheese and stir over low heat until melted.
  • Taste sauce and season with minced onion, salt and pepper as desired; combine with cooked macaroni.
  • Mixture may be heated on top of the stove or baked in a casserole in a moderate oven, topped with buttered crumbs at 180 C.
  • Bake until crumbs are browned, about 35 minutes.
